So "Sekai ga Naiteru Nara"
is SKE's coupling title for AKB's new single "Green Flash". To be
honest when I first listened to it I really didn't like the song. I mean
if you just listen to it, without taking notice of the lyric's meaning
it's nothing special. Okay it has a good beat and tune but like I said
nothing extraordinary. However after I took a look on the lyrics I
slowly started to like it. And ever since the MV's short version (and
later the whole MV) was released I loved it. Okay, song-wise I
-surprisingly- prefer NMB's 'Punkish', but SKE's MV and song combination
is just awesome.
The
song has like two parts. You have the A melo which is more calm and the
B melo -the refrain- which is more powerful, more outgoing. The song
itself has a kind of sad tune which fit the lyrics really good. And if
you take a closer look on the lyrics you notice that it is a criticism
on today's society. For example:
"If they turn away their eyes from the wound
They forget the pain..."
They forget the pain..."
Which
says that if we don't see it, it never happened or that there isn't
such a thing, although everyone knows. Things like this happens really
often.
However later more on that, let's move on to the even better MV.
The
MV's story is really confusing if you watch it for the first time but
after rewatching it a few times it gets a lot clearer. First off the MV
has no dance scenes, leaving just the story. And to be honest with just
watching the MV I wouldn't know if Rena centers this song or if it is
our usual wMatsui combo. But I guess it's our beloved wMatsui combo
centering this song. Just like the lyrics the MV itself has a deeper
meaning which I really love. I will later explain the meaning and the
actual plot.
But now let's take a first look at the awesome music video.

*** Attention Personal Opinion ***
Okay that was SKE's new PV. Like I said it is stellar. There is probably no better word to praise this -or at least I can't think of a better word. Furthermore the lyrics are also epic since it kind of describes today's society. For example:

But let's take a deeper look on the MV's plot and meaning.
Roughly speaking the MV is about Rena has a big crush on her teacher. Going as far as giving him love letters and bentos. However Rena is not alone with her love for the teacher since there are also a lot of other girls who are in love with the teacher. Be that as it will the teacher dies, killed by one of his admires. So the police is called, the inspector arrives and finds the dead body surrounded by highschool girls taking a picture.
Well, let the interrogations start. Everyone is talking about her time with the victim, how they met and what they did. However the more the inspector interrogates them the more confused he gets.
The reason for this is easy. Every girl actually is the same person. One person, 16 identities, 16 different behaviors, stories, names. Of course you have already guessed who this person might be. Right, Matsui Rena.
Which makes a clear case: Rena has Dissociative identity disorder or DID.
But the special thing in this case is that every girl (personality) is the same age and like/love the same person, the teacher. Well it’s special because everyone has a different life and actually shouldn’t be feeling what the other does.
Furthermore every identity of Rena has its own character with one superior emotion. For example: calm (Rena), shy (Kanon), menacing (Sae), psycho (Churi), quiet (Minarun) but the strongest of them all is ferocious (Jurina) –of which everyone seems to be afraid of.
However there is something which is really uncommon –in addition to my earlier mentioned point- for DID. Rena knows what every one of them is doing, almost like she is linked to the other identities or more like she can see them doing things although she is in her own ‘mind cell’. By the way, the number in the middle of the rectangle represents the identity that is in control of the body. The one in the middle? However the only numbers we know are 1 (Rena) and 16 (Jurina).
But let’s get back to the question: why did the teacher had to die?
Well, like mentioned Rena has a huge crush on the teacher and therefore the other 16 identities have. And like I said they are giving him Bentos and Love Letters and he accepts them. Well, of course the Identities will think that they, that each one has achance with him. BUT it seems like the teacher already had a girlfriend/wive and was kind of betraying the girls –or he was just being nice and didn’t want to break their hearts. So what happens when 16 different girls –or more like one girl with 16 different identities- feel angry, jealous and betrayed? Right, they form a union against the one who made them feel this way.
And remember me saying that Jurina is portaied as being the strongest of all the personalities -beside Rena that is? Well she seems also be able to control or manipulate the other weaker personalities. Meaning she is able to be a threat to the main personality, Rena. Furthermore Jurina is the only person Rena is afraid of.
Well, my point is that Jurina, who represents ferocity, gets to Rena –who is at that point in her weakest state- and offers her to take care of the problem which actually means getting rid of the teacher.
So Rena agrees to that and therefore the other 14 identities. That’s the point where Jurina and Rena melt into one being and kills the teacher with the syringe –or more its substance. And when the inspector finds the victim and his murder, Jurina is still present/in control –or better she is more in control than Rena at that moment. But as soon as the interrogations start Jurina makes way for the other identities to tell their stories.
Eventually Rena appears and tells her story and later on realizes what she actually did. And then in the last scene, in which Rena screams and suddenly disappears, she realizes that she lost to Jurina, that she listened to her and that she killed the teacher meaning that Rena faded away and the other identities get locked away by Jurina. The only one remaining is Jurina since she was the strongest of Rena’s personalities and is able to survive on her own.
Well, that's the plot (kind of) and I hope it's understandable.
Like I said I really love how deep this whole song/MV is. I mean, you really have to think to understand what's going on in there.
I actually think that the MV means that everyone of us has those different sides in us, like being psycho, calm or ferocious and that they can be triggered or activated by something. Like in this case being betrayed by someone you like/love. I really like that thought of having so many character traits or emotional traits which are kind of hidden deep in us.
I'm probably interpreting way too much in this MV but hey, let me dream....(kind of).
So that's for this MV and I hope you got a better view on the plot.
